The traditional Italian manufacturer Arflex was founded in 1947 by Carlo Barassi and Renato Teani and focused on the new material polyurethane. With the support of the designer Marco Zanuso, they managed to build Arflex into one of the most innovative furniture manufacturers in Italy. The Virgola armchair was designed by the Israeli designer Yaacov Kaufman for Arflex in 1991.
